Reading, PA – The Worcester Railers HC (34-30-3-5 76pts) lost to the Reading Royals (33-28-9-2, 77pts), on Saturday night by a final score of 7-3 in front of a crowd of 5,522 at the Santander Arena.
Reading scored the first two goals of the game in the first period. It started with Matt Brown (2-3-5) and Logan Britt (1-0-1) who gave Reading the 2-0 lead going into the second period. Sam Sedley (2-0-2) pushed the Reading lead to 3-0 with his power play goal 2:25 into the second period. Just under three minutes later the Railers would get their first score of the night off the stick of Matias Rajaniemi (1-0-1). Reading capped the second period off with a goal from Mason Primeau (1-1-2) making it a 4-1 game with 20 minutes to go. The Railers got the third period scoring started as Riley Piercey (1-0-1) scored to bring Worcester within two goals. Reading answered right back as Matt Brown scored his second goal of the night to make it a 5-2 Reading lead. Reading would finish the scoring off with two empty net goals coming from Jake Smith (1-1-2) and Sam Sedley making it a 7-3 final score.
Reading did all the scoring in the first period as they jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead. The first Royals goal came on the power play from Matt Brown (18th) on a scrum in front of the net. Logan Britt (3rd) then scored 17:01 into the first period on the rush, finishing off a three-man chase for Reading. The Railers closed out the final 54 seconds of the first period on the power play but were unable to cash in leaving them with a little over a minute of power play time to start the second period. Shots favored Reading 13-9 in the first.
After killing the remainder of the Worcester power play, Reading extended their lead to 3-0 early in the second period with their second power play goal of the night. It was Sam Sedley (7th) who scored the Reading goal. The Railers would go on to score their first goal of the night from Matias Rajaniemi (5th) who got Worcester on the board 5:24 into the second. He took a shot from the slot that went top shelf. Reading finished off the second period scoring with a goal from Mason Primeau (13th) making it a 4-1 game heading into the final frame. Shots favored Worcester 14-9 in the second.
The Railers brought this one within two 6:17 into the third period. It was Riley Piercey (10th) who scored Worcester’s second of the night. The Royals did not hesitate to get back up by three as Matt Brown (19th) scored his second of the night giving Reading the 5-2 lead. The Railers brought the game back within two as Anthony Callin (24th) scored on the power play. Reading would go on the score twice on the Worcester empty net coming from Jake Smith (16th) and Sam Sedley (8th) leading to a final score of 7-3. Shots favored Worcester 13-10 in the third and 36-32 in regulation.
